A STUDENT has made an art form out of the battle against the bullies.

Darlington College arts student Jack Peach, 17, of Catterick Garrison, has been rewarded for his efforts after designing a poster to raise awareness about the issue.

College equalities co-ordinator Alison Bell launched a college-wide competition to design some artwork on the back of last month’s national anti-bullying week.

“Jack’s design was simple, effective and powerful,” she said. “I like the fact he used some of the wording commonly used by bullies and the subtle detail, such as the fact that the victim has the scars of self-harm on her arm.”

The Level 3 Btec art and design student added: “Young people too often have to endure bullying 24/7 because it comes over the internet or by text, even invading the sanctity of their homes.

“The image shows a girl trying to hide her pain behind a mask that is starting to crumble.”

His design will be reproduced as a poster and displayed around the college.
