TEENAGERS transformed madness and mayhem into magic and music as they took to the stage for their annual spectacular.

The sounds of 1980s ska sensation Madness echoed around Longfield Academy, Darlington, for three nights as students performed the musical Our House.

A cast of 20 Year 8-11 performers acted out and sang a tale of teenage trials and tribulations before packed houses of friends and family.

The show-stopping performance was the culmination of six months of rehearsals held after school and at weekends.

Director Nikki Page said: “They have all performed tremendously well and their commitment shone through on stage before very appreciative audiences.

“As well as performing, students also worked back stage, joined staff in the band and arranged the sound and lighting.”

For performing arts GCSE students Caitlin Singh, 15, Becky Richmond, 16, and Yeva Creegan, 15, the show was a chance to secure well-earned marks towards their qualifications.

“It has been amazing; the best experience ever,” said Yeva. Caitlin added: “It has been nerve-racking but incredibly rewarding and has helped so many of us come out of our shells.”

Becky said: “The cast has really bonded too and despite the age differences we have made some very close friends.”
