WOOLLY thinking was the order of the day as college students did their bit for charity.

Northallerton College students attended classes in wacky, weird and wonderful wool creations to raise money for Save the Children.

The Christmas jumper day raised much-needed funds, still being collected in, for the global charity which helps children in more than 120 countries, from Syria to Liberia, Brazil to Bangladesh.

Sixth form student Anthony Boersma, 17, organised the event with colleague Emma Wilson, 17, both of Northallerton.

He has helped in the town’s Save the Children charity shop for the past four years. “I started when I did my Duke of Edinburgh Award and have continued ever since.

“We put posters around the college, emailed form tutors and appealed through social media. I was delighted with the turn out and support from staff and students.”

Emma added: “It’s a great charity to support and the students were really proud to show off their wears.”

Save the Children is hoping the event will raise hundreds of thousands of pounds nationally, which will buy antibiotics for babies fighting infections.
