PENSIONERS got into the party spirit when a Middlesbrough school hosted its annual Christmas get-together for some of the town's senior residents.

Guests from residential homes were invited to The Kings Academy for an afternoon of entertainment, tea and chat with friends and students.

Hosted by drama teacher Eddie Jones, sporting his traditional Christmas jumper, students performed drama, singing and dancing for the residents of Normanby Court, Hollis Court, Dalby Court, Stainton Way and Tollesby Hall, as well as friends and family members.

Sixth formers welcomed the guests with a glass of mulled wine while younger students helped them with a quiz and Christmas crackers and told the visitors about their school before a full afternoon tea was served.

Mary Tanfield, from Hollis Court, said: "I've been to this event every year since the academy opened. It's lovely, the staff and the students do such a good job. We have a very good rapport with them. I think it's a very good school and the entertainment is always marvellous."

Her friend, first time visitor Sylvia Robinson, added: "It's wonderful. What a lovely setting, and it's very well organised."

Sixth form student Sophie O'Rourke said: "I love helping at the residents' tea party. They're all so lovely, they melt your heart."
