ANYONE for tennis? That's the question being put to families in Thorne as the area joins the Great British Tennis Weekend.

Trinity Academy, in Thorne, is opening up its outdoor court facilities to the community and encouraging players of all ages and abilities to get in the mood for Wimbledon.

Free events are taking place all over the country in the national scheme being coordinated by the Lawn Tennis Association.

Nigel Armstrong, a qualified tennis coach who taught players in California, Hong Kong and Switzerland before joining Trinity Academy, said: "We have outstanding, floodlit facilities here and they are for the whole community.

"The Great British Tennis Weekend is a great opportunity for anyone who's been thinking of taking up tennis, who wants to improve their skills or simply wants to take part in a family activity."

There will be adult, mini and beginner tennis coaching as well as family play, cardio tennis and free play. Racquets and balls will be provided.

Trinity Academy has recently become affiliated as a satellite of Wheatley Hills Tennis Club and is to start running six week coaching courses at weekends and after school.

"Wheatley Hills membership is growing too so, through the relationship we've developed, their players will be able to come to Trinity and continue playing through the winter because we've got the floodlights," added Nigel.
