A CATWALK became a dog run as textile students used their creativity to good effect with a charity fashion show to remember.
A2 textiles student Sally Hughlock modelled Hugo the standard poodle in a dog jacket made from wool provided by sponsor Montana Fabrics, of Northallerton.
Northallerton College GCSE, AS and A2 level work also graced the catwalk of the annual student fashion show which this year featured children’s fabric books, 1960s fashion with a contemporary twist and dogwear.
The event raised £350 for The Dales School Hydrotherapy Pool Appeal and towards an MRI scanner for Northallerton’s Friarage Hospital.
Head of textiles Linda Breckon said: “It was a fabulous evening with students and staff modelling the clothing and other creations.
“I know they were thrilled to see their work on the catwalk and the money raised will go to some very worthwhile causes.”
Friends of The Dales School launched a £60,000 appeal to refurbish a vital facility that is crucial to the learning of students with severe and complex needs.
The school, at Morton-on-Swale, provides specialist co-education to 50 students aged two to 19 from across the region, including County Durham, Teesside and North Yorkshire.
For the past 27 years it has been the only facility outside of the James Cook Hospital, Middlesbrough, to offer the community a hydrotherapy pool.
But the key facility is now in desperate need of refurbishment so the school can continue its invaluable work.
To catch the public imagination the appeal is being driven by Hydro Duck, a toy mascot who is travelling the world raising the profile of the appeal.
It just missed out on a trip to Everest base camp, has been to London, Norway, Egypt, the Bahamas and New York.
Hydro Duck’s globetrotting progress and timeline is being charted on its own Facebook page (www.facebook.com/fods2014), blog and Twitter (@FODS2014). Advanced teaching assistant Judy Shopland-Reed said: “We can’t thank the students of Northallerton College enough for their support. The pool is such an important piece of equipment and this moves us that bit closer to the target.”
