YOUNG footballers will be sporting their new kit with pride thanks to a unique sponsorship deal designed to boost their self-esteem.

Darlington College BTEC sports with football students will be the first in the region to receive free kit for their studies thanks to Darlington Football Club manager Martin Gray and Stockton sportswear and uniform specialists Motif8.

“Looking the part and feeling professional are essential elements in how the students perform in their studies, training and matches,” said Martin, manager of Darlington and managing director of the Martin Gray Football Academy.

“The three year deal with Motif8 will add even more value to an already unique course and ensure that Darlington College is the only one in the area where students benefit from free kit.”

Students on the course divide their time between academic studies, training and playing, with many offered invaluable opportunities to play for Darlington or experience coaching life in Martin’s academy.

Managing director of Stockton sportswear and uniform company Motif8 Chris Pomfret said: “I think the sponsorship deal is a fantastic opportunity for everyone.

“Martin and I share many of the same hopes and aspirations for young people so I am delighted to be working with him and Darlington College on this joint initiative.

“The students look great, exceptionally professional and this gives them a taste of the professional game that can’t fail to inspire them in their studies.”

Student Bradley Blythe, 17, of Newton Aycliffe, who plays left back for Darlington U18s, added: “I started playing when I was just ten and have no doubts that if you look the part you play better. The new kit makes you feel more professional and want to work even harder on your game.”
