FOOTBALLERS have completed the treble rounding off an incredible season of sport for their school.
The Year 9 football team at Richmond School and Sixth Form College took the North Yorkshire County Cup in emphatic style beating Harrogate’s St John Fisher School 4-1 in the final.
After already winning the Richmondshire and Hambleton Area Cup and area seven-a-side tournament they ended their season by claiming the biggest prize to become county champions.
Tom Carnegie-Brown got the final off to a flying start with an opening goal after just 10 minutes converting an Eddie Lewington corner. Cameron Spence then scored the goal of the game to make it 2-0 as he shot from 30 yards, the ball flying past the keeper and in off the underside of the bar.
Richmond continued to dominate in the second half and could have gone 3-0 up but Eddie Lewington missed a penalty after Nathan Simpson had been fouled in the box.
Eddie soon made amends scoring the third after running on to a great through ball from Cameron Spence to chip the keeper.
Top scorer for the season Gary Walker rounded off the scoring powering a shot past the keeper from a rebound. St John Fisher scored a consolation goal late in the game to make the final score 4-1.
PE teacher and coach Jonathan Kellett said: “It has been a great season for the Year 9s winning all but one game in the year, which has been down to fabulous team play, hard work and a passionate desire to win.”
Year 7, and 8 teams played seven-man sides from across North Yorkshire, each winning their area tournaments. Year 7s and 9s also won their respective 11-a-side knockout cup earlier this year.
Richmond School and Sixth Form has also enjoyed success at rugby and cricket, with the U13 cricketers crowned Yorkshire indoor champions.
The school is reaping the benefits of its investment in sport in recent years and now boasts some of the best facilities in the county.
