SCHOOLBOY cricketers are bowled over after being crowned Yorkshire champions.

Richmond School and Sixth Form’s U13 team won every match to take the Indoor Yorkshire Championships at Headingly, Leeds.

The eight-a-side teams battled it out for eight overs to see who could hit the most runs in a fast-paced contest attracting teams from all over Yorkshire.

In a tense climax to the competition Richmond’s Sam Potter ran a three to claim victory in the semi final.

The final saw them take revenge over Ilkley Grammar School who defeated them in the same competition last year.

Richmond hit an impressive 105 run target then bowled out their opponents for just 70 to take the honours.

The team also comprises captain and wicketkeeper Tom Dowson, James Kelly, the first ever girl to compete in the final Amy Jobling, Josh Coburn, Daniel Baines, Daniel Luck and John Forbes.

Richmond PE teacher and team coach Jonathan Kellet said: “Indoor cricket is a huge pressure game. One mistake can cost you dearly. Our team is incredibly hard working and dedicated and has put in a lot of early morning practices.

“It is a completely different game and the students have learnt it well. They thoroughly deserve to be Yorkshire champions and are exhibiting great potential for the future.”
