STUDENTS are celebrating after their school was ranked among the best ten per cent in the country.

Risedale Sports and Community College, Hipswell, Catterick Garrison, has been lauded for being one of the best in the country for student progress at GCSE.

The school is leading the field nationally for the value it adds to students’ achievements at GCSE.

SSAT, the Schools, Students and Teachers Network, recently undertook its annual in-depth analysis of official Department for Education data on all state-funded schools in England and identified Risedale Sports and Community College’s success.

The school has qualified for an SSAT Educational Outcomes Award by being in the top 10 per cent of schools nationally for progress made by pupils between their key stage 2 results at primary school and their GCSE results at the age of 16.

The school has been invited to receive the award at a regional celebration ceremony hosted by SSAT at Acklam Grange High in Middlesbrough on April 20.
Associate principal John Kelly said: “I am absolutely thrilled that all of the work of staff, students, governors and families has been recognised nationally.

“By working so closely together we are managing to transform students’ lives ensuring the very best outcomes and opportunities are created for our young people.”

Annie Stott, 11, of Colburn, said: “We all feel really proud that our school has received a national award for the good work that happens here.”

SSAT chief executive Sue Williamson added: “Risedale Sports and Community College should be congratulated for its exceptional achievement. They have proved themselves to be leading the field in improving GCSE outcomes for their students.

“These results are testament to the commitment and hard work of the students, teachers and leadership team at Risedale Sports and Community College, and show what can be achieved when skilled teachers have high expectations and ambition for every young person.”

SSAT was founded from the former Specialist Schools and Academies Trust in May 2012.

An independent membership organisation for schools, since 1987 it has worked to help transform education in England.
