STUDENTS stripped back a harrowing tale of political ambition and tragedy in a challenging production of a Shakespearean classic.
Drama and theatre studies students at Trinity Academy, Thorne, performed an hour long abridged version of Macbeth before audiences of classmates and primary school children.
The cast comprised A Level students Mica Skidmore, 18, Megan Anderton, 17, Caitlin Houlbrook, 17, Victoria Roe, 18, Bailey Wilson, 17, and George Asher, 17.
First produced for their AS level studies, the students transferred the play to the boards for two performances.
Written by William Shakespeare and first performed in the 1600s, Macbeth dramatises the damaging physical and psychological effects of political ambition on those lusting for power.
Head of performing arts Mel Cutler said: “Many of the audience were very young so our students had to strip back the text to understand the intricacies of the language so they could convey the true meaning of the words to others.
“They managed to focus on their performance skills and the result was outstanding; they really did perform exceptionally well.”
Bailey said: “Performing to children really did makes us think about the words we were using and how best to engage with the audience. It was challenging but really rewarding and we were delighted with the reception we got from the audience.”
