AN audience considered itself at home after being transported into a Dickensian era of workhouses, miscreants and ne’er-do-wells.

Students at Beaumont Hill Academy, Darlington, staged a peerless performance of the classic Oliver as the hall at the Education Village was transformed into a home for street urchins, vagabonds and thieves.

Producer Mary Jeffrey spent months working with the students, culminating in a musical show-stopper to remember performed to a packed house of family and friends.

She said: “The cast has worked incredibly hard giving up their spare time to rehearse and I am so proud of them.”

Beaumont Hill Academy principal Caroline Green added: “Over the past year a great deal of hard work has gone into the production by students and staff and the result has been a wonderful performance.”
