WOOLLY thinking proved to be a real money-spinner when students decided to help a local charity.
Students at Longfield Academy, Darlington, swapped uniforms for festive knitwear in a Yuletide extravaganza to raise much-needed funds for St Teresa’s Hospice.
The Christmas celebration is expected to raise more than £1,000 for the charity, which provides care for Darlington, South Durham and North Yorkshire.
Students paid a pound to look resplendent in Santa, snowmen and Christmas tree jumpers. Students Lily Withington and Jess Harrison, 15, helped swell the coffers by selling more than 300 tickets for a prize draw for a luxury hamper.
Lily said: “My granddad was involved with St Teresa’s Hospice so I know what a great job it does and how much support it provides for people in need and their families.”
Assistant headteacher Stuart Rawle added: “Students have been studying the hospice movement and fully appreciate what an incredible facility St Teresa’s is. We have supported the hospice for the past six years and everyone was only too pleased to contribute to a great cause.”
Students also enjoyed karaoke, competitions, a visit from Santa and the Grinch before sitting down to a Christmas turkey lunch.
