SCHOOLBOY cricketers have completed the cup double after claiming the area and county trophies.
Richmond School Year 9s, who form the U14 cricket team defeated Bedale School in the Hambleton and Richmondshire Area Cup and Stokesley School to be crowned North Yorkshire County champions.
The victories mark a stunning season for Richmond School after the U13 team became Indoor Yorkshire Champions earlier this year.
The Year 9 cricketers defeated Bedale by eight wickets in the Hambleton and Richmondshire Area Cup. Bedale were restricted to 63 runs in their 20 overs with Cameron Spence taking three wickets for eight runs supported by Mark Walker and Johnny Carlton both taking one for eight runs from their four overs.
In reply Richmond made quick work knocking off the 64 runs required to win with Sam Winter hitting the winning runs in the 8th over to finish on 46 not out.
The county cup saw Richmond School dominate again taking advantage of the difficult conditions and electing to bowl first.
Opening bowlers Jonny Carr and captain Sam Winter ripped through the Stokesley openers reducing the opposition to nine for four wickets with Sam finishing with figures of four overs, three wickets for four runs and Jonny finishing with nine for one from his four overs.
Richmond’s Tom Spensley and Sam quickly chased down the 73 target inside nine overs with Tom hitting a six to win the game and finish on 52 not out.
Sam scored 20 not out and finished with a huge average of 218 for the competition.
Richmond School PE teacher and cricket coach Jonathan Kellett said: “It has been a fantastic season for the boys as most of the team were also involved in the Year 9 football squad which won the cup treble including the county cup.
“The Year 9 students are a very talented and hardworking group of students who have had a fantastic year at Richmond School in many sports.”
