FESTIVAL fun came to a school when it transformed into Beaumontbury for an afternoon – with no wellies required.

The village green open area at Darlington Education Village came alive with music, dance and face glitter as the children and staff of Beaumont Hill Academy got into the festival vibe.

It was peace and love all round as the children tried samba drumming, learned basic ukulele tunes and circus skills, and made festival jewellery.

Earlier in the week they had tie-dyed t-shirts and decorated headbands so they looked the part, and made shakers to accompany the live band.

The event was organised by teaching assistant Beth Rowlands, who explained: “We wanted to do something that was exciting and where everyone could get involved and be creative in some way. Glastonbury isn’t on this year, so we created our own festival with Beaumontbury.”

The staff were supported by Apollo Arts, a Stockton-based theatre company that takes its live music and creative experiences into schools.

Part of The Education Village Academy Trust, Beaumont Hill Academy is a specialist provider for children aged from two-19 with complex learning needs and a range of social, emotional and mental health conditions.
