STUDENTS’ musical learning reached a crescendo as they performed for families the new skills they had learned at school.
A mixed repertoire of pop, classical and original music entertained an audience at the Education Village, Darlington, as Haughton Academy students demonstrated their talents.
Also joined by Year 5 pupils from Red Hall Primary School, the Summer Live Music Festival featured a 90-minute performance by 30 students from years 7 to 11.
Music ranged from Ed Sheeran to Johann Pachelbel’s Canon in D Major, Zipadee Doo Daa to Tears in Heaven, performed by musicians who have just learned an instrument to others who had reached grade 6.
Performances featured bands and individuals, accompanied musicians and those singing acapella.
Head of music at Haughton Academy Lisa Armstrong said: “This was a celebration of how outstanding our students are. We stage these events every term and this was a fantastic concert, the best yet. Parents, carers, staff and students absolutely loved it. It was awesome.”
Pianist Fahey Underwood, 14, said: “It was scary but a lot of fun and we really appreciated the compliments.”
Fellow pianist Erica Marasigan, also 14, added: “It was really nice watching the other students perform their talents which you don’t normally get to see. It is great to see what they are doing and how good they have become.”
