A BIG hitter has served up an impressive win at her chosen sport in her first area competition.
It was game, set and match for Lucy Watts, 13, who secured a victory with a tie-break win in the Richmondshire Area Tennis tournament.
The Northallerton School and Sixth Form College student, who has been honing her skills at the Northallerton Tennis club for the past six years, now has her sights set on even greater achievements.
“I’d love to be the next female Andy Murray,” said Lucy, who plays each Saturday for her local tennis club and trains most evenings with her dad.
“I went to Wimbledon a few years ago and saw Roger Federer play and that really inspired me to want to do well.
“It was great to win in my very first area competition and I’d really like to progress in the sport and see just how far I can go.”
Head of sports faculty at Northallerton School and Sixth Form College Anna Harvey added: “It is fantastic that Lucy is doing so well and that we have a tennis player from our school represented on the area team.
“Lucy is a great ambassador for the sport and always encourages others to get involved.”
