MUSICAL maestros shared the magic of learning with a performance to remember.

Pupils from Barnard Castle Preparatory School staged a ‘have-a-go’ concert, which for some was their first ever public performance.

Budding singers, pianists, violinists and drummers shared the stage with trumpet players, guitarists, saxophonists and a cellist.

Years 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 pupils played to a packed house of friends and family who enjoyed a mixed repertoire ranging from rock to classical.

Director of music Dr Robin Harrison said: “Learning music in private and playing to an audience require different skills and the progression is so much greater when young people perform.”

Headmistress Laura Turner added: “The have-a-go concert is one of my favourites because for many of the pupils it is the first time they have ever performed. Pupils, staff and the audience always enjoy the experience equally and the memory of their success stays with us always.

“Music is incredibly valuable to children’s development, stimulating their intellect and incorporating a variety of skills into an enjoyable pastime. No matter what stage the children have reached, they all put on splendid performances.”
