INTERNATIONAL students took on staff in a charity football match to help send a young boy abroad for life-saving treatment.
Boarders at Barnard Castle School made a donation to tackle their teachers on the pitch in a friendly international fundraiser.
Proceeds have been donated to Bradley Lowery, the five-year-old Sunderland fan who needs to raise £700,000 for life-saving treatment in America.
Bradley was first diagnosed in 2013 with neuroblastoma. After chemotherapy and a number of operations he went into remission in 2015. But it returned for a second time and Bradley’s family hope treatment in the United States will save his life.
Barnard Castle School teacher and Sunderland fan Nick Connor said: “Football has always been apart of my life. My grandfather played for Sunderland and Scotland from 1929 to 1939 and I have two nephews who play for the Foundation of Light.
“I was watching the match when Everton donated £200,000 to Bradley and while our efforts pale by comparison with £100 it was great to mobilise the help of our international students and organise a charity match.
“Our foreign students integrate so well into the school and the local community. They have a great work ethic and they love their football. The match was fabulous fun and we all wish Bradley the very best with his treatment.”
