A STUDENT is looking to the past to secure a bright future after being offered a place at one of the world’s most prestigious universities.
Richmond Sixth Form College student Grant Dalton has been offered a place at University College, Oxford. The 17-year-old, of Richmond, is studying A Levels in history, maths and French and needs to secure top grades to take up his place to read history. The offer followed a gruelling three-day entrance process including a tough exam and several interviews. Grant is one of four students at Richmond Sixth Form College to be offered places at either Oxford or Cambridge. Eighteen-year-olds Claire Heseltine, of Richmond, and Samya Kelly, of Arkengarthdale, will read classical studies and archaeology at Oxford and Cambridge universities respectively. Grant said: “The entrance exam was difficult and I had to discuss an original source. I was absolutely delighted to receive an offer.” The degree course will cover a period stretching from medieval times to modern day and Grant hopes one day to become a journalist. Assistant head teacher Leslie Richardson said: “We are thrilled that so many of our sixth formers have impressed at interview and been offered places at Oxbridge or Russell Group universities. They are a credit to themselves and the college.” Last year all sixth formers managed to secure a place at a university of their choice and a fifth are now reading degrees at the top echelon of establishments.
