SECURING a place at university proved to be child’s play for a student who wants to become a primary school teacher.

Northallerton College sixth former Jess Saunders received offers from all five universities she applied to which she attributes to her work experience.
For the past two years she has been working regularly in primary schools in Northallerton and the surrounding villages accruing a mass of first hand knowledge.
Her efforts mean she is now spoilt for choice as to where she studies but she hopes to take up the place she has been offered at Sunderland University.
“I have always enjoyed working with children so to get a place doing something I love is amazing,” said the 18-year-old of Northallerton, who is a reader leader helping young children with their literacy.
“I enjoy watching children develop and see how they grow up. After my studies I hope to get a job in a school wherever there is a vacancy.”
Head of sixth form Bronia Harris said: “Jess is the perfect example of what can be achieved if a student goes that extra mile. She has fitted a wealth of work experience around her A Level studies and is now reaping the benefits.”
