YOUNG leaders have been chosen to represent and help guide the student body at their academy.

Trinity Academy, in Thorne, has appointed its new head boy and head girl and house captains to undertake a range of responsibilities in the coming year.

Head boy Adam Osborne and head girl Jessica Harvey will be role models for younger students as well as hosting visitors to the academy, attending school events and running the annual prize giving celebration.

Adam, 16, of Thorne, who is taking A levels in maths, biology, psychology and PE, explained how they got the job: "We had to write a letter of application where we explained how we demonstrate the academy core values and why we thought we'd be suitable for the role."

Four candidates for each role were chosen for interview.

Jessica, 17, of Thorne, who is studying A levels in biology, chemistry, maths and economics, added: "I applied because I wanted to give something back to the academy, especially after Year 11 when teachers put on extra lessons and study support to help us through our GCSEs.

"Year 11 is probably the most important year in school before the sixth form and now I want to be able to support this year's students because I know how useful that help can be."

The new house captains are Molly Fowler and Dylan Turner for Poets house, Andrew Gitsham and Lauren Walker for Shepherds and Deanna Charles and Craig Venables for Kings.

Andrew said they were responsible for organising house events from football to cooking, public speaking to short story writing, helping on dinner duties and hosting three house assemblies during the year.

Director of sixth form Gemma Hirst said: "Our head boy, head girl and house captains play vital roles in academy activities and are a big support to the staff. They were chosen for being excellent role models for younger students in their attitude to work and for displaying the core values.

"The senior roles are also a valuable opportunity for the students who have been chosen to develop their leadership, communication and teamwork skills, which are attributes employers are looking for."
