A STAR performer has been recognised along with dedicated team players as a Thorne academy celebrated a year of sporting success.
Yasmin Mosby was honoured with the Barry Marks Award, the top prize in Trinity Academy's annual sports awards.
Yasmin broke the girls' 800m and javelin records at the academy's sports day this year and went on to take the Year 10 titles in the same events at the Doncaster Schools Athletics Championships. She also plays football for Sheffield Ladies.
Head of PE Dave Potts described her as "a talented all-rounder" who embodied everything sport was about.
"She shows great determination and humility in everything she does. She does not brag, instead choosing to support and encourage those around her. She gives advice, takes feedback and acts on it positively. She is dedicated and passionate about sport.
"Yasmin is also an extremely hardworking GCSE PE student who I have the privilege to teach. We are so proud to say she's a student at Trinity Academy," added Mr Potts.
As well being a review of the last sporting year and a celebration of achievement, the event was a platform for launching a new year of school sport.
"We are delighted with the start we've made this year," said Mr Potts. "We are continuing our no train-no play policy, which is reaping rewards as we are seeing huge numbers of students turning out each week to train.
"Win or lose, we are proud of our students because they always give their personal best and they all contribute to what is a fantastic element of Trinity Academy."
Among the team successes were last year's Y10 rugby players who were Doncaster Schools champions. Now in Y11, three of the boys - Quinn Leggott, Nathan Easen and Connor Stennett - have been selected to represent Trinity in the Emmanuel Schools Foundation's (ESF) Lions squad for its tour of Scotland later this month.
Last year's Y9 and Y10 girls were Doncaster Schools hockey champions, including Ellie Aldsworth who represented the academy a year early in the ESF Pumas squad.
In tennis, Paige King and Kika Oliver represented Doncaster in the South Yorkshire School Games, and the Y7 and Y10 rounders teams came third in Doncaster.
Connor Swift and Luke Pike were Doncaster Schools Y13 and Y9 cross country champions, and Luke represented South Yorkshire in the English Schools championships.
In the Doncaster Indoor Athletics Championships, Daniel Cairns won the Y8 200m and the Y10 girls were team champions.
Outdoors, the academy celebrated five champions. Along with Yamsin Mosby, Luke Pike, Ryan Pentland, Amy Barker and Megan Williamson won their events.
Former head of girls' PE Anna Rhodes made the trip from her new school in Nottingham to present some of the prizes, making special mention of the Year 9-10 girls' football team. Katie O'Brien was welcomed as the new head of girls' PE.
As well as supporting its own students to success, the PR department runs rugby, hockey and gymnastics programmes for Year 6 children and indoor athletics for Trinity's feeder primary schools.
Principal David Page said three of the academy's core values stood out in the sporting performances - determination, honourable purpose and courage.
He added: "It's wonderful to be able to celebrate not just winners, but everybody who has taken part. The great thing about sport is that, as well as feeling supported, it's also a great chance to support others and to feel part of something bigger."
