A CONVEYANCING executive was put to the ultimate test when she had to handle the purchase of her future boss's house.

Lisa Stronach was with another firm but about to start with BHP Law when she found herself representing a vendor, whose home was being bought by BHP’s head of conveyancing Sally Hare.

Thanks to Lisa’s nearly 30 years' experience, the conveyance went through smoothly.

Lisa, who lives just a short walk from BHP’s Darlington office, said: "I worked in Darlington for 18 years before moving to another law firm on Teesside so it's great to be back in the town.

"It was a stroke of luck that Sally, my new boss-to-be, was buying my client's property as it was great to work with colleagues at BHP Law before actually joining the firm myself."

Lisa can expect a busy workload with BHP's number of conveyancing matters currently at a level three times higher than at the same time two years ago.

In July, traditionally the start of the quiet summer period for the property market, the 27-strong team handled more than 500 sales and purchases.

Sally explained: "We are seeing a continuing local boom coupled with a level of national work referred to us at a rate we didn't imagine could happen so soon.

"The work is coming from many varied sources as well as from our loyal established client base in the North East. There is more movement mid-market and still a fairly large amount of first time buyer clients, while our new build specialists are exceptionally busy."

Although the firm has increased its residential conveyancing team by eight already this year, it is continuing to recruit to meet demand for its services.

Sally added: "With expansion at this rate you need competent people with expertise so it's fantastic to have found Lisa whose many years of expertise are invaluable."
