A YOUNG adventurer will be outward bound after impressing the organisers of an armed services challenge.
Risedale Sports and Community College student Sophie Dallolio swam across lakes, climbed sheer rock faces and swung through the trees in an eight-day experience to remember.
Officials at the Annington Trust and the Outward Bound Trust were so impressed with her physical and motivational skills she secured a scholarship with them.
Sophie, 14, was one of six Risedale pupils to embark on the serious outdoor adventure in the Lake District, which attracted students from across the UK, China and France.
They took part in a host of activities including freshwater swimming in Ullswater, rock climbing, gorge scrambling and the trapeze, before going on an expedition during which they slept out in the woods.
“Swimming across the lake was amazing, especially as we had to keep a lookout for the ferry,” said Sophie, who is training to be a lifeguard.
“My dad is a battery sergeant major and I think he was impressed with everything I had achieved. I have been on school trips before but compared to those this was very challenging.”
The Annington Challenge was set up for the children of services children to help them develop skills and make new friends.
Risedale teacher Helen Porritt said: “Sophie has a can do attitude and it is great that this came through on the adventure.
“The Annington Challenge really does test the students’ resolve physically and mentally and the fact that they awarded her the scholarship is praise indeed.”
