A SURFACE designer is enjoying wall-to-wall success after launching her first major collection.

Teesside designer Heather Bareham is on a roll after seeing her signature collection of wallpapers marketed to a worldwide audience through her design house Patternation.

The collection includes five of her stunning bespoke 3D cutwork effect designs. It also showcases her award winning gold mosaic print from the surfaces category of the New Design Britain Awards at Interiors, NEC Birmingham, 2011.

“I was getting so many positive responses about my wallpaper designs that I decided the time was right to develop them further and put them into production,” said Heather, 26, of Redcar, who graduated with a degree in textiles and surface design from CCAD’s Hartlepool campus in 2010.

“Looking back at a few of my final major project pieces from CCAD I chose prints that could be put into repeat and printed digitally to order and launched my first signature collection.

“I have had interest from retailers and stockists with two local interior design shops, Revere and Rococo already stocking my designs. It’s a great feeling to have had such a good response and support for my work.”

Heather, who started her own business Patternation in 2013, works from her design studio in Saltburn-by-the-Sea combining techniques of handcrafted cutwork and drawing, mixed with digital technology, to create unique home and gift products.

As well as selling her wallpaper collection, Heather is also making a name for herself in the international design market by teaming up with San Francisco-based company Keka – holders of the largest collection of pattern designs for home décor and accessories from independent designers.

Heather will be providing designs for iPhone and iPad cases as well as bespoke homeware after having her work spotted online.

“It’s really amazing to know my work will be seen all over the world especially since I’ve not left the North East to pursue my career,” said Heather.

“It was always important for me to study here, have my studio here and live here, but it’s really exciting to branch out further afield.

“I never imagined that my work would take off like this. It’s always a scary prospect to go it alone and become self-employed, but it all feels so right.

“My tutors at CCAD told me to always believe in myself and don’t stop what I’m doing. I’ve always stuck by that advice and I’m so pleased that I did.”
