Three sets of twins with 58 A* and A grades between them are among the outstanding GCSE performances of pupils at Ripon Grammar School.
Louisa Chatterton and her sister Katharine achieved 22 A* and A grades, closely followed by brother and sister Lorcan and Molly Gallagher with 21 top grades and boarding twin brothers Harry and George Stratford with 15.
Maddie Charvill with 13 A*s and Ben Pimley with 12 A*s led the field in a year that produced 60% A*/A grades for the fifth year in a row.
Over 86% of the grades were A*-B and 97% were C or better. Over 99% of students secured at least five A*-C grades and 97.5% achieved the benchmark including mathematics and English.
The GCSEs follow a successful set of A level results last week which placed RGS as the highest performing state school in Yorkshire.
Delighted headmaster Martin Pearman said: “These results provide an outstanding foundation for success at A level for the year group and I would like to congratulate both staff and students on their success.
“They should be very proud of what they have achieved and the results are just reward for all their hard work. The day produced many smiling faces and it was wonderful to share in the success of the students.”
Almost a third of Ripon Grammar School pupils – or 32 out of 119 students – achieved at least ten A* or A grades.
Nine gained ten or more A*: Maddie Charvill, Louisa Chatterton, Ella Durkin, Lorcan Gallagher, Molly Morrell, Rebecca Payling, Ben Pimley, Georgie Taylor and Freya Whiteside.
Thirty-two students achieved ten ore more A* and A grades: Lucie Algret, Alys Arnold, Maddie Charvill, Kate Charlton, Louisa Chatterton, Annissa Cook, Tim Coppack, Cobey Cutmore, Katherine Dale, Ella Durkin, Mhairi Ellis, Helen Elsworth, Dan Evans, Lorcan Gallagher, Poppie Hercock-Walker, Ella Jones, Isobel Lawson, Alicia McCormick Roddis, Lily Millington, Molly Morrell, Rebecca Payling, Will Penny, Ben Pimley, Alice Robinson, Jake Robinson, Phoebe Senior, Jacob Sharp, Ellie Simmerson, Rebecca Smith, Georgie Taylor, Freya Whiteside, James Willis.
Elder Stratford twin by two minutes, Harry, who is staying on to do A levels in maths, physics, chemistry and PE, said: "We work together and help each other out when we can. The boarding house is like one big family and we can always ask the sixth formers for help if we can need it because they've already been through it."
George, who is doing economics, geography, physics and maths at A level, added: "We always to try to beat each other at everything we do, but it's good because it pushes you on to do better all the time."
The Chatterton twins are regular performers in school productions. Katharine, who is considering drama school after A levels in maths, French, English literature and RE, said: "We're very independent and have different ways of working but when we got sick of being inside revising we started going on walks and taking flash cards and reciting facts to each other. We ended up going out every day, for hours at a time."
Louisa, who will take A levels in maths, English, chemistry and biology, added: "Sometimes the twins rivalry thing is difficult but we know each other so well and know our own strengths and weaknesses and we're just very supportive of each other so we were both very happy when we opened our envelopes."
The twins are all heading off to Leeds Festival to celebrate their results along with other friends from Ripon Grammar School.
