TOP athlete Libby Hedger was one of three students at The King’s Academy to celebrate a clean sweep of top grades in today’s GCSES.
Libby, who has represented Cleveland in the prestigious English Schools competition, achieved seven A* grades and three As. Joseph Clark and Jack Young were close behind with six A*s and four As.
Seven students at the Coulby Newham academy gained at least eight top grades, including Catherine Race with eight A*s and one A.
Others celebrating today included Jessica Codling, Emily Evans and Olivia McAvoy.
The academy recorded one of its best overall results to date with 58% of students gaining at least five A*-C grades including English and mathematics.
Principal David Dawes said: “We are delighted with the students’ results because they show a promising upward trajectory with particular improvements for our more disadvantaged students, for boys and in maths and English. Congratulations to all those whose commitment to their studies has paid off today.
“Staff are working very hard and this progress is just reward for their efforts too. We will start the next academic year with renewed drive for further improvement for all our students, and look forward to welcoming those who are joining our Sixth Form.”
Mr Dawes added: “Students have excelled from across the wide diversity of backgrounds we welcome at The King’s Academy, including refugees from Syria and other overseas students.”
The academy, which has 1,200 students, has three specialist ‘resource’ bases for some 100 children with higher learning needs, visual impairments and deaf or hearing impairments.
