KIND-hearted students have egg-celled themselves after collecting a host of sweet treats for a family refuge.

Students from North Yorkshire, Darlington and South West Durham, who attend Next Steps at Darlington College, spent five weeks pulling together a huge haul of 105 chocolate eggs to donate to Family Help, a charity that aids the victims of domestic abuse.

With the help of tutors Lynsey Wilson and Rebecca Lister, they also raffled an Easter egg raising another £40 that will pay for a family to have a day out at the swimming pool.

Lynsey said: “They are a great group and love helping the community, in fact this is the fourth initiative they have supported as they have also worked with the town’s food bank, First Stop and Operation Christmas Child.”

Student Lauren Jeffery added: “We are really pleased with the support we received as we persuaded a lot of people to get involved.”

Family Help child support worker Julie Adams visited Darlington College to collect the eggs. She said: “It is so lovely that the students want to help us and we and our families certainly appreciate their efforts.

“We will distribute the eggs among our families and they will be delighted. We have a great relationship with Darlington College and love coming here.”
