STUDENTS and staff ran, bounced and tugged their way to glory as a North Yorkshire school responded to the needs of a national charity.
Hundreds of students at Richmond School and Sixth Form College were joined by staff in a series of activities including a mile-long run, space hopper races, the crossbar challenge, Frisbee throwing and tug of war to raise hundreds of pounds for Sport Relief.
Years 7, 8, and 9 students donated at least a pound to take part in the events designed to stimulate young people’s interests in active living and charity. So far the event has realised almost £1,200.
First home in the Year 8 mile run was Kieran Bowers, 13. He said: “I am not normally a runner but wanted to take part to help Sport Relief and couldn’t believe it when I was first back.”
PE teacher Lynsey Carruthers added: “It was great to see so many young people enjoying themselves, raising much-need funds and their awareness about the work of charities.
“Being active has so many benefits physically and mentally and it was an incredibly rewarding exercise for students and staff to take part in.”
