AUCTIONEERS will deliver a knockout blow when they stage an annual school fundraiser.
World champion boxer David Haye has donated a signed glove for the auction of promises to be staged at The Allertonshire School, Northallerton.
Visitors will also get the chance to bid for the final House of Commons bear donated by Richmond’s MP William Hague before he steps down next May.
For almost quarter of a century the auction has been held at the school raising around £100,000 for a variety of projects, ranging from new furniture to equipment.
School governor Linda Maclean, who organises the auction, spends the year contacting former pupils and local businesses for donations.
“It was fantastic that David Haye donated one of his gloves,” she said. “William Hague has been very supportive over the years and it is amazing to think this will be his final House of Commons teddy bear.”
Former pupil Jamie Christon is the managing director of Chester Zoo, which is ranked one of the best attractions in the country.
The zoo is about to open a new island attraction with wildlife from around the globe and Jamie has donated VIP tour tickets to the auction.
The Jorvik Centre in York has donated VIP tickets and entrance to associated attractions and there is also the chance to bid for the chance to help a local farmer at lambing time.
Up to 100 prizes will also include a tour of Middlesbrough Football Club’s Riverside Stadium, a golfing day, day at the races and a greyhound experience.
Linda said: “There are so many good causes looking for donations nowadays that I really appreciate the support we receive to enhance the learning experience at The Allertonshire.
“Last year the auction raised more than £3,000 and we are looking forward to seeing the people who support us every year.”
The auction will be held in the school hall on December 4 at 7pm. The full list of lots can be seen at www.allertonshire.n-yorks.sch.uk.
The Allertonshire School will also hold a community Christmas fair on December 10 at 6.30pm in West Hall for school funds.
