SIXTH formers are making final arrangements as they prepare to help host a council’s annual firework display.

Up to 5,000 visitors are expected to attend Richmond School and Sixth Form College for the local council’s official extravaganza on Wednesday, November 5, from 6pm.

More people than ever are turning to Richmond for their bonfire night bonanza as the number of displays in the area falls.

The town’s pyrotechnics became so popular the event outgrew the previous venue at Richmond Castle and Richmond School and Sixth Form College came to the rescue with the offer of its huge site.

Students will help council organisers marshall visitors around the site for the free-of-charge firework show, which starts at 7pm. They will also be on hand to help collect donations.

Angus Bankier, 18, of Bedale, said: “We are really looking forward to welcoming so many visitors to the school. Many will not have been here before and I am sure they will love the facilities as much as we do.”

Head teacher Ian Robertson added: “Richmond School and Sixth Form College aims to be at the heart of the community and we are absolutely delighted to be hosting this fantastic annual event.”
