Teenage sports star is proving to be a class act

A TEENAGE sports star is proving to be a class act on the hockey pitch after being selected to train for England.

Budding actor Georgina Watkiss will spend the summer training at one of the country’s 12 England Junior Regional Development Centres.

The Northallerton College student and member of Thirsk Hockey Club will receive top flight coaching in Leeds along with the region’s very best players thanks to an initiative run by the England Hockey Board.

“I love hockey and want to play all my life,” said the 15-year-old, of Northallerton, who plays in mid-field and also wants to be an actor one day.

“The coaching will be fantastic and we also get to play in matches. I am really looking forward to training at the highest level.”

Head of PE Anna Harvey said: “Georgina really deserves this success and is a brilliant role model for other students as she shows what can be achieved with hard work, passion for sport and dedication.

“Being asked to train at one of these development centre is incredibly prestigious and I am sure she will feed back to her peers what she has learnt which will help the college’s team no end.”
