A YOUNG musician can be forgiven for blowing his own trumpet after winning a prestigious award.
Trumpet player James Martin shared the honours with fellow Year 11 pupil Lois Farndale at the annual end of school awards ceremony at Northallerton College.
They both received the John Dennis Award at a celebratory assembly after being nominated by the principal, staff and students.
The accolade, named after former chairman of Governors John Dennis, is awarded every year to the boy and girl whose attitude, commitment and honourable conduct has contributed the most to the reputation of the college.
James, of Northallerton, said: “I was really shocked to get the award, very surprised and very pleased.”
The 16-year-old plans to return to Northallerton College to study A Levels in science and maths with the aim of working in environmental research.
Lois, 16, of Northallerton, hopes to be a physiotherapist one day and is considering studying sport at Darlington College.
She said: “I was amazed to win the award and feel very proud.”
Mr Dennis told the students: “Presenting this prize is a great honour and takes me back to my childhood when I stood here. Northallerton College has given you sound foundations and I would urge you to always mean well and act accordingly.”
During the awards ceremony Associate Principal Mike Holmes stated: “I have known many of you since Year 6 and have watched you grow into a tremendous group of students.
“This is another big step in your journey and you have already shown that you are really excellent students.”
Accolades were also presented for good behaviour, effort, attendance, subjects, house prizes, tutors groups and special awards.
