THOUSANDS of schoolchildren have been given a taste of college life as they prepare for the next step in their learning.
Darlington College opened its doors to 2,000 Year 10 students from schools in Darlington, County Durham and North Yorkshire to help them make informed choices about their GCSE subjects.
Another 500 Year 11s ‘connected with college’ to get an insight into student life from September.
Young visitors were able to sample the college’s state of the art facilities, including hologram, virtual reality and immersive suites, robotic laboratories, industry kitchens, hair and beauty salons, engineering, construction and automotive workshops, 3D printers and renewable energy skills bays.
They were able to ask lecturers and support staff about the huge range of academic and vocational courses available ranging from levels 1 to 7.
Darlington College’s head of marketing and engagement Claire Hankey said: “We are always thrilled to welcome young visitors and this year we are particularly proud to show off the college following considerable investment in our new facilities.
“Students can rest assured that they will be receiving the very best education which will give them the skills they need to be ready for the workplace and the ability to take up exciting opportunities in the future.”
