STUDENTS and staff found themselves on the same page in a move to promote reading.

To celebrate World Book Day St Augustine’s Primary School in Darlington was transformed into a magical kingdom of classic characters to bring literacy alive.

A parade saw superman vying for attention with Violet Beauregard all under the watchful eye of head of school Martina McCollom, dressed as grandma emerging from the house from George’s Marvellous Medicine.

Students read books, created their own tomes and enacted stories in a literary feast, which also saw them study the greatest story of all – the Bible.

Mrs McCollom said: “Reading is the basic building block of learning and if children can love it then everything else tends to fall into place.

“Days like this are so effective at enhancing the joy of literature and they really bring books to life.”
