YOUNG athletes have sprung into action to become area champions at gymnastics.
Allertonshire School fielded its biggest ever U13 squad which vaulted and somersaulted its way to victory in the Richmond and Hambleton area Championships.
Teams from Northallerton College, St Francis Xavier, Stokesley, Thirsk and Bedale schools took part in the keenly fought competition.
For the first time Allertonshire School fielded a boys team which performed outstandingly to take gold with Ben Harrison, silver with Jonathan Mann and the area team trophy, with strong performances from Tyler Grisdale (5th), Riley Kendall (6th) and Brandon Wright (7th).
In the over 13 boys Tom Allen secured bronze despite being the youngest competitor.
The medals kept coming with Tom Allen and Thea Crocker grabbing gold in the over 13 mixed pairs and Jonathan Mann and Nicola Jobling who took gold in the U13 event.
Other notable performance included Beth Marshall (5th), Alisha Marston (6th), Halcyon Flint (7th), Erin McKenzie (8th), Lucy Fawcett (9th), and Madison Kitchen (10th).
Zara Wilson narrowly missed out on bronze in the floor and vault in the over 13 age group.
Alisha Marston and Amy Leggott finished 7th in the U13 partner work, followed by Madison Kitchen and Ione Powell in 11th.
In the over 13 girls partner class Jess Foster and Emily Baldwin were 7th and mily Crisp and Holly Cameron were 9th.
The gymnasts are coached by head of PE Sandra Horner and teacher Kirsty Thompson.
Mrs Horner said: “The team members are incredibly enthusiastic and practice up to three times a week. They performed superbly and richly deserve to be area champions.
“They have been a pleasure to coach and their hard work has certainly paid off.”
