THE spotlight shone on young performers who lived up to the title of their nativity play.

Children in Years 5 and 6 at Bede Academy, in Blyth, put on two performances of The Star Attraction in front of parents, grandparents and friends.

The show saw angels dancing, singing by a choir of around 140, acting by the main cast and 11 children playing instruments in the band.

The starring roles were performed by Anya Aisbitt (Mary), Aidan Monaghan (Joseph), Leo Simkins (Gabriel), Ellie Morris (The Star), Kane Heslop (Herod), and Kai Percy, Joshua Patrick and Owen Meggison (the Wise Men).

Primary Years Headteacher Irene Watson said the children had given up several playtimes to rehearse.

She added: "I think this was our most professional nativity to date. The extra practice the children put in really showed, and they are to be commended for their hard work.

"Our audience seemed to enjoy it and joined in enthusiastically with carols at the end."

Every year group at Bede Academy Primary is involved in one of nine performances of five different Christmas shows appropriate to different age groups, from Nursery to Year 6.

Collections at the end of The Star Attraction performances raised £198 for The Acorn Project to help support families and children in Africa.
