PRIMARY students have been learning about the artistry of the shadow puppet in an initiative designed to shine a light on senior school.
Northallerton College hosted a day of shadow puppetry and drama for children from Romanby Primary School.
Nineteen Year 6 boys and girls studied Aesop’s Fables, including the Boy Who Cried Wolf.
They then created contemporary cardboard versions, in the form of Bart Simpson and Dennis The Menace, before staging a shadow puppet performance for parents.
Northallerton College’s head of drama Neil Stimson said: “This is the fourth year we have done this with Romanby and the students have done really well.
“In a very short time they come up with their own script, create the shadow puppets and perform on stage, which is quite an achievement.”
Year 5 and 6 teacher Becky Jenkins added: “It has been really lovely and the children have had a great time.
“As well as enjoying themselves, this gives them a greater insight into life at secondary school which will make moving up so much less daunting.”
