CHRISTMAS came early for neighbours of Bede Academy, in Blyth, who were invited to an annual festive tea and exclusive choir performance.
Students hosted nearly 40 guests, serving them a selection of sandwiches, scones, cakes and tea, while members of the academy choir sang Christmas carols.
Many of the guests live in streets close to the academy, while others came with relatives and staff from local care homes including South Bebside, Crofton Court and Nye Bevan House, in Blyth.
Doreen Williams, who went with her next door neighbours from Newlands Road, said: "I think I've been to every residents' tea the academy has held. It's always so very enjoyable. There's a lovely atmosphere and it's nice to see the children, who are a credit to the school."
Student Imogen Pollard, 13, was serving for the first time. "I'm a prefect so we were given the chance to volunteer. I wanted to help because I'd never done it before. I thought it would be fun and I'm looking forward to talking to the residents."
Vice principal Steve Nelson said: "It's always a pleasure to welcome local residents to our senior citizens' parties, and for the students to serve them and to get to know them better.
"The academy is at the heart of the local community in Blyth. We like to strengthen the links we have our with neighbours as often as possible, and especially at this time of year when we focus on sharing and giving."
