BAKE off students have risen to the challenge by producing a mouth-watering display of cakes for charity.
Year 9, 10 and 11 home economics students from Darlington School of Mathematics and Science baked and decorated a total of 300 cakes to help raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Care.
The tasty treats were then served up, with a cup of tea or coffee for a pound donation to invited members of the local community.
DSMS home economics teacher Karen Philips said: “All of our students have been non-stop cake making at our weekly ‘Bake Off’ club to make sure that we had a fantastic display of goods for our very special coffee morning.
“They invited elderly residents from our local care homes, parents, grandparents, staff and fellow students to come along to enjoy a cake, a coffee and a chat as well as help to raise fund for very worthy charity.”
Tasty treats included lemon cake, muffins, chocolate cake, carrot cake, cup cakes, brownies, Victoria sponge banoffee cakes and coconut cake.
Bake Off club student Emma Purchase, 13, of Darlington, said: “I really enjoy baking and have made a large coconut and lime cake and some banoffee cup cakes.
“I think everyone enjoyed the coffee morning and it’s good that we have been able to raise a few hundred pounds for charity.”
Head teacher Mo Wilkinson added: “Our charity coffee morning has been a real team effort between students, staff and parents.
“It’s also been a great opportunity to reach out to the local community and invite them into our school to help forge strong links and raise money for Macmillan.”
