A PASSION for their studies helped four sixth formers achieve straight As yesterday securing them places at some of the country’s top universities.
For top performing A Level student Rhiannon Hinton the three A*s she achieved at Northallerton School and Sixth Form College will be the stepping stone she needs to pursue her dream career in cosmetic science.
The 18-year-old, of Northallerton, will now read chemistry at Leeds University with a view to working to produce the next generation of safe and radiant beauty products.
“I did some work experience at Daito Kasei, near Paris, who make cosmetics for L’Oreal,” she said. “It was fascinating to see how they combine and test ingredients to produce different make-up effects.”
High-flying student Dominic Jacques achieved two A*s and an A securing his place to read history at Cambridge University. The 18-year-old, of RAF Leeming, hopes one day to join the RAF as an officer.
“I’m passionate about history, particularly ancient and medieval and can’t wait to go to Cambridge, where I plan to join the University Air Squadron,” he said.
Sally Brooker’s passion for France saw her achieve A* and two As as she pursues her dream of working as a translator or teaching English as a foreign language.
The 18-year-old, of Northallerton, will read French at Durham University and hopes one day to live in Northwest France. “I just love France, particularly Angouleme,” she said.
Liam Geach’s love of buildings developed as he witnessed an extension being built to his home as a child. He will be able to fuel this passion for the next four years after securing a place at Edinburgh University to study architecture.
The 18-year-old, of Northallerton, was delighted to achieve an A* and two As. He said: “I love modern architecture and always watch Grand Designs. I like the way architecture combines art and engineering and it appeals to my OCD nature.”
Principal Chris Byrne said: “Our results are hugely impressive because they cover such a diverse range of aspirations. On the one hand we have students going to Russell Group universities, on the other securing places at top music colleges and apprenticeships with Rolls-Royce.
“It is great to see young people being able to move on to the next stage of their lives because of the nurturing learning environment we provide.”
