THE work of a painter who inspired a generation of artists will feature at an innovative exhibition designed to showcase creativity.

The late Tom Wall influenced a host of celebrated artists, including Mackenzie Thorpe and Carole Hutchings, as a painter and senior lecturer in fine art at Cleveland College of Art and Design.

He died aged 52 but his work is published by Darlington College lecturer Rob Elliott, who used to work with his wife Lynne.

And Rob is lending his support to fellow Darlington College lecturer and artist Donna Slyfield as she launches a pop-up exhibition, Shout About Art, in May.

The exhibition will provide the chance for artists and designer makers to demonstrate their creative skills alongside established artists in an affordable and nurturing setting.

The next event will be staged on Saturday May 17 at Hurworth Grange, Hurworth, near Darlington, providing exhibition space for artists working with a variety of disciplines, ranging from fine art, jewellery, textiles, ceramics, print, illustration, photography and more.

Rob said: “I think Shout About Art is a fantastic idea. It makes it so easy to exhibit and be involved in and is a great opportunity for artists.

“I will be taking a large space to promote the work of Tom, who was a talented and prodigious artist whose work was big, bold, colourful and an inspiration. I’ll be exhibiting framed A2 and limited edition prints.”

Donna said: “Having Tom’s work at the exhibition is what Shout About Art is all about; having established artworks next to up and coming artists, generating an atmosphere of creativity which we can all enjoy.”

Shout About Art debuted last year and saw more than 250 people through the door to enjoy the work of 20 exhibitors and a youth art expo designed to encourage young people to participate in the arts, which will be repeated this year.

Exhibitor prices remain the same at £70 for a large area and £50 for a small. Entry is £2 on the door with children under 14 years old free when accompanied by a paying adult. Discounted family and friend’s tickets for four adults are available from www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/shout-about-art-hurworth-tickets.

Exhibitors will also be featured on the Shout About Art website – www.shoutaboutart.com – where full details of the event can be found and Donna is also considering developing an on-line directory featuring bespoke work by local artists.
