A North East college has received national recognition for being one of the best schools in the country for the progress it helps students to make.
Emmanuel College, in Gateshead, was described as “leading the field” in improving outcomes for students and congratulated for its “exceptional achievement”.
Success levels at GCSE show the college, in Gateshead, is among the top 20 per cent of schools in England for the value it adds to enable students to progress and for students’ high attainment.
Emmanuel’s success was identified during an in-depth analysis of official Department for Education data on all state-funded schools in England by SSAT, the national schools’ membership organisation for improvement and collaboration.
Emmanuel College qualified for two SSAT Educational Outcome Awards, for being in the top fifth of schools nationally for high attainment and for the progress students make between key stage 2 results at primary school and GCSE results at 16.
Its overall pass rate for the benchmark five GCSEs at grade C or better was 99.5 per cent and 91 per cent including English and mathematics.
The college has also been honoured with acting as host for SSAT’s regional celebration ceremony in June when Emmanuel and other successful schools in the North East will receive their awards.
