STAFF and holidaymakers are funding raising at their leisure to support a cause close to their hearts.
And visitors to Chantry Country and Leisure Retreat, at West Witton, and Yorkshire Dales Country and Leisure Park, Harmby, near Leyburn, have already raised around £500 after adopting St Teresa’s Hospice as their chosen charity.
The Hospice needs to raise £3m a year to provide free in-patient and community care for people living with life-limiting illnesses and their families in Darlington, South Durham and North Yorkshire.
Both parks, which employ a total of around 30 staff, are planning a host of events in the coming weeks with fundraising opportunities galore for the hospice.
Park Leisure general manager Steve Buchan said: “The company supports charities every year and this year we will be supporting St Teresa's Hospice who care for people with life-limiting illnesses and their families, as a company we genuinely want to help our community and we know St Teresa’s is a great cause.
“There will be a charitable element to everything we do, and we hope to raise as much money as we can for them, who we feel privileged to be working with.
“We have a lot planned for the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations, including street parties, a bake off and the planting of a Jubilee tree.”
Hospice fundraising and marketing manager John Paul Stabler said: “We were delighted when St Teresa’s was chosen as the charity of the year by the Chantry and Yorkshire Dales parks.
“They’ve made a brilliant start with their recent fundraising efforts and we’re grateful for their support, which is vital as we continue to catch up after the pandemic devastated our ability to raise funds. Steve and his team are a shining example of how the community served by the hospice has rallied round to give something back.”
