PARENTS have thanked the headteacher and deputy head of their children's school after they spent more than nine hours delivering Easter eggs to their pupils' homes.

Richard Gartland, headteacher at Springfield Academy, in Darlington, and his deputy Paula Austin delivered 246 eggs to children living in the town.

Parent Rachael Cook, who son Jake-Ray was one of the children to benefit, said: "These teachers have gone above and beyond to make sure their pupils are receiving what they need and so they could be kept safe by not leaving their homes to receive them.

"They are also going to be doing deliveries for breakfast to those who have opted in after the holidays."

The teachers have driven a total of 96 miles around the town to deliver the eggs, which were left on doorsteps to avoid direct contact, taking nine hours and 20 minutes.

Springfield Academy is based at the town's Education Village.
