A GALA concert proved to be music to the ears as young musicians took the stage to showcase their talents.
A rich and diverse repertoire, from Beethoven to Bon Jovi, reverberated around the walls of Barnard Castle School as ensembles and soloists performed in public.
Music at Barnard Castle Preparatory School continues to go from strength to strength with every child offered the chance to perform, from Year 3-6.
A term’s hard work in the classroom and extra-curricular music lessons culminated in a gala concert for families.
Brass, strings, orchestra, recorders and choral performances galore featured a varied selection of music, including Ode to Joy by Beethoven, Livin’ on a Prayer by Bon Jovi and Havana by Camilla Cabelo.
There were also performances of Thank You for the Music by Abba, Easy Tiger by Pam Wedgewood, Where is Love by Lionel Bart, Orange, Yellow and Brown by Lin Marsh and Holiday by Green Day.
Director of Music at the Prep School Dr Robin Harrison said: “The ensembles you have heard have worked tirelessly to produce a great and varied programme.
“Music plays an important part of Prep School life with each year group receiving weekly music lessons, while many children further develop their musicianship, aural, pitch, rhythm and instrumental skills through a variety of songs and music games.
“All children have the opportunity to sing, with hymn practice each Friday morning in the Atkinson Hall and Prep Choir sing descants in Chapel weekly.
“The children sing as a whole school and in year groups at the Carol Services and take part in the House Singing Competition. The gala concert was the perfect opportunity to hear just how far they have come.”
