FUNDRAISING has swung, spun and climbed into action as a school for children with additional needs strives to develop its outdoor play area.
Shop staff at the local ASDA have kicked off efforts at Beaumont Hill Academy, Darlington, with a generous £500 cheque from its community fund.
The school, which is part of the Education Village Academy Trust, hopes to improve its outdoor play area which is essential for the development of pupils who have a wide range of physical and learning conditions and disabilities.
The ASDA Foundation supports the local community and shop customers are asked to vote for their favourite good cause every quarter under the Green Token Giving Scheme.
Beaumont Hill Academy’s outdoor play scheme was the clear winner this quarter receiving a £500 cheque towards the total budget cost, which is expected to be around £65,000.
Teacher Hanna Graydon said: “Playing outdoors is essential for all children in their physical and mental development.
“Fresh air and physical activity is particularly vital for our children and we notice a direct correlation between their behaviour and ability to learn when they have been outdoors.”
ASDA community champion Louise Gibson added: “The school’s long-term plan to develop the outdoor play area sounds really exciting and will benefit so many children over the coming years. It’s a project that ASDA and its customers are delighted to support.”
