PUPILS banged the drum for learning in an initiative designed to broaden their horizons to the continent of Africa.
Cultural expert Butshilo Nleyo brought a taste of Africa through rhythm and song to pupils at Marchbank Academy, Darlington.
The performer spent the day with Year 5 and 6 pupils teaching them traditional songs and beats before staging a performance of what they had learned about the Benin culture.
Teacher Chris Pressdee-Rudd said: “We have been looking at West Africa as a topic, particularly the ancient kingdom of Benin.
“The workshop was the perfect way to enrich these studies with singing, drumming and dancing and all the pupils had a fantastic time, which I am sure they will always remember.”
