SCHOOLCHILDREN have been given a glimpse of life as a sixth former in a move to promote the benefits of further education.

Year 10 students were invited to sample the diverse delights of A Level studies at Richmond School and Sixth Form College.

Youngsters swapped uniforms for casual attire as they experienced the breadth of courses available, ranging from maths, science and technology to creative and performing arts, humanities, languages, sport and psychology. Students also tried out various enrichment activities such as taking part in science experiments, dance and drama, creative writing or team sports.

Assistant head teacher Leslie Richardson said: “We are always pleased to show prospective students the unique nature of our sixth form centre.

“Students benefit from a facility that helps them become more independent and where staff provide the very best learning opportunities bespoke to their specific needs. We also have the added benefit of being part of the wider school community where sixth form students can take part in sport, music and drama or develop their mentoring skills with younger children.

“Our taster day shows exactly what they can expect when they choose to stay on at our sixth form and the contrasts in learning compared to being at school.”
